Information we collect

We do not ask you for your name, email address or any other personal details to use the site. The only information involved in a normal visit is described below.

• Preferences in your browser: your light or dark theme choice and your spoiler-filter setting are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them. This data never leaves your device and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
• Server logs: our host, Cloudflare Pages, automatically processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. This is used to deliver the site, protect it from abuse and measure performance.
• Usage statistics: we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are viewed, how long visits last, the approximate country and the type of device. Google Analytics uses cookies such as _ga and processes your IP address. We look at these figures only in aggregate and do not use them to identify you. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
• Emails you send us: if you contact us by email, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply to you.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

The site uses Google Analytics cookies to count visits and see which pages are popular, as described above. We also display, or may display, advertising served by Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running the site. When ads are shown, third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or other websites.

Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics and advertising cookies are not used until you give your consent. Until then, Google Analytics only receives basic, cookieless signals that do not identify you, and only non-personalised ads, which do not rely on your browsing history, may be shown. When a consent message is shown, you can change or withdraw your consent at any time through it or the privacy settings link shown with it.

How we use information

• To deliver the pages you request and keep the site fast and available.
• To understand which pages and features people use, so we can improve the map and the guides.
• To detect and prevent abuse, such as automated attacks.
• To reply to messages you send us.
• To show advertising that helps fund the site, as described above.

Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information. Data is processed by the service providers that make the site work: Cloudflare, which hosts and protects the site, and Google, which provides our analytics and, when shown, advertising. Each of them handles data under its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Data retention

Server logs are kept by our host for a limited time for security and performance purposes. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, which is at most 14 months. Emails are kept only as long as needed to deal with your message. Preferences in local storage stay in your browser until you clear them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA/CPRA in California, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Because we hold very little data about visitors, most requests can be answered quickly. Email us at contact@wheeloftimemap.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Children's privacy

The site is a general-audience reference and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Some pages link to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy, for example when we add or change advertising or analytics. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed. Significant changes will be made here before they take effect.
